It’s been a few years since I’ve done any portraits and I never felt I was really that good at them. Back then it was a case of giving the client what they wanted, all squeaky clean, nicely posed and looking lovely. Lately I’ve had a hankering to get back into doing some more portrait work but this time it’s just going to be for me.
So I’ll hopefully be posting a few portraits over the coming months and I would love to hear what you think, good or bad. But most importantly I really want to know if the photos tell a story for you?
I love this photo. The story of this man’s life etched in his face.Because he was at ease with you he did not pose and as a result you captured something elusive, something of his essence, something a little vulnerable.
We see beneath the skin because of what you saw.-Karen.
Thanks for stopping by Karen and for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.
I like these detailed portrait photos where you can see every wrinkle very good. I never managed to make one like that unless I add a lot of clarity or make it HDR, and usually I end up with a crappy looking photo 😀 If it’s not a secret, of course, would you mind sharing how you edited the photo?
I don’t have a set workflow Corina I usually just play around in photoshop and see what I end up with. I use high pass a lot and also the un-sharpen filter as well as Nik Efex. I recently download some great action from a guy called Jimmy McIntyre (google jimmy mcintyre luminosity masks and you’ll find him) He has some great tutorials as well. Another good action for photoshop is called freaky details, it was free to download (not sure if it still is) and great for emphasising highlights. Hope that helps.
